[ARC5] Strange box

I  picked up what I thought would be a VFO - black box, large bakelite
knob on the front, reduction gearing to a vernier display, SO-239
connector on the back.

Oddly enough it turns out to be a 2m receiver, presumably AM.

The reason I'm writing to this group is that it appears to have been put
together out of ARC-5-type components - the chassis, IF cans, etc, all
look familiar. However, there are three 717's in there. There's also a
6-gang (!!) air variable capacitor.

Looking for a place to start from which perhaps to identify the pieces
that have been put together. I will post a picture sometime if there's
interest.
