Welcome aboard. There is a wealth of information on this list as well
as the milsurplus list with respect to the ARC-5 and SCR-274N Command
sets.
I'm not too hot at figuring out the mods from description, but I'll
pass on a tip the Dave Stinson gave some years back: find a copy of
the old CQ Command Sets book. These were published back when surplus
was everywhere and Command sets were a dime a dozen. They contain many
different modifications for "improving" these rigs back in the day.
It's a must if you choose to deal with these modified units. As Dave
pointed out, they are most helpful for un-modding a hacked up radio
that might otherwise get trashed. Dave as well as a few others on here
have seen a lot of the common mods as well as the not-so-common ones,
and can perhaps help you out with the mods to your set.
Good luck with the project and enjoy -
