Actually, there's an alternate way to do it that doesn't involve cutting and
gluing. Works on plug-in caps and vibrators, too (if the aluminum isn't
brittle as it always is on VB-5's). Take the narrowest pair (about 3/16" wide)
Xcelyte flush cutting end cutters. Preferably (I bought an extra pair just for
this), dull (grind flat) one of the cutter tips and paint it black or your
choice. With the dull tip on the outside, place the sharp tip against where the
rolled over aluminum lip meets the mica disk. Close the cutters and rock them
toward the outside of the cap can. Work around the lip several times until
the lip is standing up straight. pull the disk out. Repair the unit. Seat the
disk back down inside the lip and using a small shop hammer, work around the
lip tapping it back down agains the disk.
