[ARC5] Capacitor observation and question

I'm going through my pile of
capacitor cans and have noticed
something, just wondering if
anyone else has seen the same
thing.

Note, I am in no way implying that the
manufacturer named was doing anything
wrong, either knowingly or unknowingly.
After all, who really knows how anything
will look or last after 60 years.

A large percentage of my shorted and
leaky capacitors have SPRAGUE
printed on the bottom on the
rating and part number printed
in red ink. On the other hand, a large
percentage of the unnamed capacitors, with
the rating and part number stamped in appear
to be good.

Also, when opening up the cans, and examining
the contents, it almost looks like the offending
"corrosion" could be mold. Could this be the case?
Could the demise of these capacitors be organic
rather than chemical?

Jack
