I rode in the Yankee Air Museum B-17 "Yankee Lady".
I think that the pilot and co-pilot positions have been updated with some
modern radio gear to accomodate safe flying around the country for their
exhibitions.
In every other part of the aircraft, notably the radio room, the equipment
was appropriate.
What I noticed was that the HF gear wasn't operational - a lot of the
electrical cabling that would be needed was not there.
I never talked with them about it, but I assume that if someone wanted to
donate the time to restore to operational, that they'd probably be ok with
that. However, that is pretty specialized knowledge, and also since the
plane is a flying museum, which all visitors are encouraged to touch, I
suspect they don't want to go to the effort for that reason.
At any rate, I would encourage anyone with interest in riding in a B-17 to
give the Yankee Lady a shot. They need all the help they can get after
the fire that leveled their museum.
