I should have added that I have a personal "favorite" control box. (How
weird is that?)
The C-51/ARC-4 is a very neat all-in-one design. It is the same size as a
BC-451 transmitter control box, yet it has controls for ON-OFF, interphone,
channel selection, guard channel operation, volume, and two phone and one
mic jacks. The only connector needed is a common PL-153 type. None of that
silly additional J-22A/ARC-5 jack box and external volume control nonsense
like the AN/ARC-1, -2, and -5 sets used.
Later the C-52/ARC-4 box was adopted, which went to the minimalist concept
of having only channel and guard mode selection controls. A J-22A would be
required with a C-52.
To my knowledge, a five inch standard panel was never developed for the
AN/ARC-4.
If you're ever putting together a complete WWII VHF command set, the
AN/ARC-4 is the one to start with. All you need is the RT-19/ARC-4,
C-51/ARC-4, MT-101/ARC-4 for the RT-19, MT-80/ARC-5 for the C-51, and a
PL-153 connector for the C-51 and you've got the complete installation
except for antenna and wiring.
