Ebay can be extremely educational. I have learned a lot looking at some of
the better documented auction descriptions. I don't understand the near
religious fanatic attitudes of some list owners and members about mentioning
ebay items. Fortunately, the ARC5 and Milsurplus lists have a happy
coexistence, where there is no abuse of the lists as an advertising medium.

There's an interesting parallel evolution of five inch control panel design
in the USN and the USAAF/USAF in the late 1940s. Though the same width, the
mounting slots (USN) or holes (USAF) are positioned differently, and the
manner of connection to the panel is very different.

For example, there were the original "box on the bulkhead" controls:

C-45/ARC-1 for the VHF AN/ARC-1 and its UHF cousin, the AN/ARC-12.
C-244A/ARC-2 for the HF AN/ARC-2 and -2A.
C-118A/ARC-3 for the VHF AN/ARC-3.
C-26/ARC-5, usually for the R-23/ARC-5.
C-87/ART-13 for the HF AN/ART-13.
C-149/ARN-6 for the ADF AN/ARN-6.
C-35/ARR-2A for the homing set AN/ARR-2A with motor tuning.

Then five inch width panels came into service:

Navy style (slotted edges for mounting screws, and same connectors as the
earlier box)
C-115/ARC-1 vs. the C-45.
C-245A/ARC-2 vs. the C-244A.
C-125/ARC-5 vs the C-26.
C-116/ARR-2A cs. the C-35.

USAF style (mounting screw holes drilled in the corners, and wiring harness
connected to a terminal strip)
C-403A/A for the AN/ARN-6.
C-404A/A for the AN/ARC-3.
C-405A/A for the AN/ART-13A.

Then came the final standard 5.75 inch panels with integral Dzus fasteners
and the standard connectors as appeared on the earlier boxes:
C-865/ARC-1
C-732A/ARC-2
C-744/ARC-5
C-740/ART-13
C-738/ARR-2A
C-758/A (and many others) for the AN/ARN-6
And the AN/ARR-15 finally got a control box, the
C-733A/ARR-15A

Most of these appear to be designed for USN service.

73,
