There is a reason to follow that route. If you are starting a collection, you may not know how rare an item really is. The statistics are very noisy. So, you buy the first one that comes along. Likely it's not in perfect shape, so you look for a
better one, and a better one, and so on. I've done it.

Eventually, if you ever get around to it, you sell of the ones in worse shape....  someday, maybe.
