[ARC5] ARC-5 circuit

Another question (probably a dumb one that will be obvious when I 
hear the answer which might be something as simple as (socket pins 
are being used at solder lugs....etc.)

In the schematic for these transmitters, the Xtal is shown with only 
two connections, as would be expected for a regular Xtal, however the 
metal-housed Xtals in these units plugs into an octal socket and has 
wiring underneath to more than to pins. What is up with this. How do 
I understand the schematic which only shows two pins being connected. 
What are all those other pins on these Xtals? Also what is that 
little handle like knob on the top of these ARC5 Xtals, is that 
simply for pulling them out?
