Hello from a newcomer.

My first rig was a BC-454 receiver/BC-457 transmitter combo on 80 meters
from 1967-1973. The BC-457 is a 4.0-5.3 Mc/s radio, but it can be easily
re-tuned to 80 meters by adjusting the bandset capacitors in both the =
VFO
and final stages.

I've had a fondness for ARC-5 rigs ever since, but with the demise of AM =
in
the 70's and 80's there didn't seem to be any point in running ARC-5 =
gear.

In the last decade however, local AM enthusiasts started a net on 3850 =
KHz,
and quite a few guys here are running home-brew and war-surplus rigs on
the net frequency. Someone placed a batch order for 3850 KHz crystals =
and
they sold out real quick.

So I've picked up an ARC-5 transmitter, 3.0-4.0 Mc/s, and intend getting =
it to
work on the net frequency.

I've joined this group in order to swap technical information, and also =
because
I'm interested in the history of the A.R.C. company, and the =
predecessors of
the ARC-5 (the BC-230/SCR-183 I believe). It can be illuminating to =
examine
the predecessor, in order that we appreciate the improvements, or change =
in
philosophy, of the new equipment.
