Dear Juno Member,
We are writing to warn you of an Internet scam designed
to trick you into revealing credit card, passwords,
social security numbers and other personal information
to individuals who intend to use them for fraudulent
purposes. The scam is known as "phishing" and the
communications are sent to appear to look as if they
come from reputable companies such as Juno. The e-mails
often instruct you to verify or update your account
information by requesting you to reply to their e-mail
with your updated information, or by providing you with
a link to a website where you may enter your information.
The Federal Trade Commission has issued a warning about
these identity theft scams. They suggest the following:
If you get an e-mail that warns you, with little or no
notice, that an account of yours will be shut down unless
you reconfirm your billing information, do not reply or
click on the link in the e-mail. Instead, contact the
company cited in the e-mail using a telephone number or
Web site address you know to be genuine. For Juno, you
should contact [email protected] or call customer support
at 888-839-5866. We take security very seriously and
will work with law enforcement with the goal of preventing
this type of activity.
Avoid e-mailing personal and financial information.
Review credit card and bank account statements as soon
as you receive them to determine whether there are any
unauthorized charges. If there is unauthorized activity,
we strongly urge you to contact your credit card company
immediately to determine what action you should take.
For more information on how to avoid e-mail scams, please
visit the Federal Trade Commission's website at
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/alerts/=phishingalrt.htm
Remember, when you receive e-mail from an unknown source and
suspect it to be spam, avoid clicking on the unsubscribe
links, replying to the spam, replying to an address in the
spam message, or visiting any link contained within the
e-mail. These actions confirm the validity of your e-mail
address and may result in more spam.
If you ever receive e-mail requesting this type of inform-
ation, please forward the message to:
[email protected]
Please remember that Juno will never send you an unsolicited
e-mail asking you for your password, social security number,
mother's maiden name, or driver's license number.
If we do request you to update your credit card information
for billing purposes, the request would link to
http://account.juno.com
You can also access these sites directly from the My Account
tab at the top of the start page to update your account
information at any time. Please remember that some of these
sites will appear to look as if they are being sent from us,
so if you have any question, please contact
[email protected]
Thank you,
Juno Security & Abuse Dept.
