Oh, I dunno Dave.....I have an AAF command set at home in my garage with
two shafts coming out the front panel, jacks added, connectors added,
dial totally removed, large crystal socket added inside, miniature tubes
mounted...about the only thing recognizable is the shape! I got it in a
pile of sets, most of wich were modified to varying degrees. I think one
or two were stock.
However, I'd add that these disgusting hackjobs are also a great source
of parts, right down to the tiny screws of nothing else. Of course,
they're not actually worth paying much for, but the salvaged parts are
always worth having on hand.
One thing you can bet on: you won't see many hacked up Yaecomewood
radios in the future. Combination of design, construction, and lack of
knowledge by the owners. But then, once the firmware goes, most of them
will be doorstops anyhow....
