The set was specifically designed to be used with the ART-13
transmitter. The regular tuning gears were removed from the
receiver and a one-turn worm gear installed, so that the
entire tuning range is covered by one revolution of the gear.
The receiver was carefully tuned to each preset channel-
another reason for the R-27 to be broad.
The autotune unit was wired via a junction box
to the ART-13 control box. It operated on the first six
channel settings of the ART-13 box, remaining on setting #6
for the upper ART-13 channels.
The audio output was fed to the intercom box.
I have the wiring diagram of
this setup somewhere- probably deep in storage.
Don't know if it ever got an AN/ARC- number
like the AN/ARC-8, which used the BC-348 with the ART-13.
