Good fortune smiled upon me today. I found half-a-dozen of the plastic knobs I like to use for ARC RX tuning! Our local towns get together and collect household hazardous waste materials a couple of times a year. They're trying a new experiment this year: collecting old computers and peripherals with the haz. mats. I couldn't believe how much "stuff" they had piled on the ground! All ages, all conditions. I dropped off some of my old materials, then parked my Jeep off to the side. I went "prowling" through the piles in search of IBM CGA monitors (ca. 1983-4). I found 3! I haven't seen any since 1996 or 1997. The recycling workers kept asking me, "Can I help you?" I just showed them the knobs and they were content to let me poke around. Presumably, as long as I didn't get in the way...

The knobs are black plastic. Heads are 15mm in diameter with 9mm diameter shafts. The head length is 12mm, shaft length is 20mm. They look good with black crinkle finish radios and are easily modified for an exact fit. The 'brightness' and 'contrast' legends are easily removed by "wet-sanding" with 320 or finer grit sand-paper. There aren't enough 6743's to go around, and these fit the bill (or shaft!).
