You're right, of course, Paul. It takes time and money to do any
restoration.
I guess it's the attitude toward anything other then the outward shell
of the aircraft that chaps me. That's why I make exception for
people who care and are trying to do it right.
I had dealings with the local chapter of the then-and-still-ought-to-be
Confederate Air Force wing in 'Vegas. They were a great bunch and
really cared about their aircraft. After I moved away I contacted the
CAF headquarters about membership. As soon as I just mentioned perhaps
being able to provide a few pieces they might use to get some of
the technology back in the aircraft (for free, mind you), their
attitudes
turned snide and dismissive. They didn't have time for us little people
that can't buy a P-47, nor for (quote) "that useless old junk."
This happened with three different CAF people.
So I don't have the time of day for them anymore,
nor have I made an effort to get actively involved
in the warbird scene lately.
If my modest efforts, born of modest means, are to be snidely
denigrated, then I have better things to do with my time.
Granted, I've had to move around a lot and that's slowed down
what I can do the last three years. But that won't last forever.
When I'm back in a house I'll check in with the groups you mention.
Kindly,
Dave S.
