Stranded... stuff a little like solder wick or thin braid, only 
round.  Quite flexible, essential to reduce breakage due to 
vibration.  Ever been in a WW-II aircraft in flight?

The  beaded wire I have that came from my 1944 GO-9 transmitter had special 
ends on it that fit the hardware on the insulators.. the hardware thing 
is  just like the top of an automotive spark plug.  The  wire end was 
slipped over the fitting and snapped in place.

The standoffs normally had bolts  through the center, with either push type 
connectors such as is on the receiver, or the above mentioned spark-plug 
like tip.
