Dave -

I have an undated (except for the lithographers date of 10-44)
"Pilot Training Manual for the Flying Fortress B-17." This manual
covers the B-17F, primarily, but mentions the "new B-17G," and
describes the major differences between the two.

This manual has two pages describing the SCR-522 and its operation,
which includes the following:

------

Common Uses of Channels

"A" channel is usually used for all normal plane-to-plane
communication or for plane-to-ground communication with a
Controller.

"B" channel is common to all VHF-equipped control towers. It is
normally used to contact the control tower for takeoff and landing
instructions.

"C" channel is frequently used in contacting homing stations.

"D" channel is normally used for plane-to-ground contact with D/F
stations, and as a special frequency which is automatically
selected at regular intervals by the action of a contactor unit.

------

The frequency assigned to each of these channels, of course, is not
identified.

Hope this helps.
