I use two of the small riding lawn mower batteries available at walmart for
about $20 ea.

And you can get those in deep discharge type also. I have one in a plastic
bucket for an emergency emergency supply. The regular lawn mower battery
only lasted a year to eighteen months but the deep discharge is three years
old and still  up to snuff. This with the same automatic trickle charger on
both types.
