Saw a book today- "The Lockheed P-38 Lightening," c1991 by
Waren Bodie, ISBN 0-9629359-5-6. On the cover is a beautiful
color photo, taken in mid 1944, of the 5000th P-38
produced by Lockheed.
They painted it read and named it "Yahoo!"
Clearly visible behind the pilot's seat is a 2TX/3RX SCR-274N.
Inside are many photographs of P-38s in all theaters.
Considering those photos where the radio equipment is visible and
in which the location of the aircraft in the photograph
is given, the P-38s in the Pacific and American theaters
are equipped with SCR-274N.
Those in the European theater are equipped with SCR-522.
In a few of the photos, the equipment is clearly neither
274N nor 522. I'm not certain, but a couple look like
they might be SCR-283.
I only had time for a quick look, but I'll be
asking my local library to get the book for me.
