Dave,
The range we tried the BC-611's over was as I pointed out 3+klms ore 2 miles
roughly. We tried all 4 over that distance and had an effective two way
signal of 5-7 which I thought was quite reasonable, certainly for a squad
radio of that era. We have developed a switch-mode dc-dc converter and were
maybe more interested in testing that rather than doing a real usable
distance test. We will be doing some more tests and I would like to see if
we could use one to contact an aircraft with ARC-5/SCR-274N and simulate a
call for air support to see what distance that can be done at, a W.W.II guy
told me that it had been done many times in his unit. As an aside, the DC-DC
converters were really good with no background hash discernable and good
life
from the batteries.
Cheers & 73's
Chris.
