I can't add much to Mike's fine post.
The bare aluminum were indeed the most numerous,
and by a fair mile.
Gorden had some production figures at one time.
IIRK, the alum BC-453 was the champ with total production
of over 250,000. Didn't know there were
that many airplanes. The 454 and 455 were close
behind with something like 150,000 each.
Contrast this with the production of RAT and RAV sets
(50 each). 1st generation A.R.C.-built SCR-274N
contract 1470-NY-41, about 1500 sets.
Western Electric 274N VHF, about 1000 sets.
I don't have production figures on the Navy runs,
but I wish I did ;-).
These figures are from memory.
Gordon doubtless has better ones.
