I have been following this thread, but I don't recall hearing that
the coax between car antennas and radios has like a 200 Ohm impedance
so using RG-58 or similar is going to hurt your efforts, if the
mount is going to be more than 3 feet from the radio a tuned circuit
followed by a FET pre-amp driving lower impedance coax would be worth
your time investigating.
