If the coax losses are high enough, you will have low swr with no antenna at all.

Remember that coax loss increases with frequency (and length). Higher
coax loss means lower SWR. It could be that the 3:1 SWR on 6 meters
is due to that loss; or at least made lower than it would have been
without it.
I think it is normal for you to see less effect on 6 meters than the
lower frequencies, at your end of the feedline.
