[Antennas] Quads

Tom,
It will work if U tie all the feed points together, however there will be a
marked pattern distortion of the 10 meter quad when doing this. Also, F/B
will also be far from optimum on 10M.
For best performance with all feed points tied together, feed with dual
balanced coaxial lines and use a tuner. Very effective method. THis will
also allow you to use the antenna on bands on which you have no specific
elements . For example, a quad built for 10, 15 and 20 will also work on
17 and 24... you won't have gain like a quad on 17 and 24, but you will get
out on those bands.

Subject: [Antennas] Quads
I've been using Quads for many (50+) years. Previously I have always used
1/4 wave matching transformers.
But this time when it went up, I purchased a commercial matching
transformer. Well, when it was installed, it was open. So, for a temporary
fix, the 20 and 17 meter elements were attached to the feedline directly.
The antenna seems to perform quite well even in this hookup.
I am tempted to just hook all the elemments to the feedline without a
matching device of any kind.
I have read many things written about doing this and it seems that all seem
to have favorable results.
I am interested in hearing from fellows that have done this and what their
results were.
Thanks,
Tom K5IID
