First, I'll say that I would NOT worry about "crowded".
There is information being asked for that is relevant to a fair sized
number of members.
Now, to address the use of a metal detector.
Yes, if it is anything other than some $20 to $50 "junk" toy, any decent
metal detector such as you speak of being used by beachcombers, will
ABSOLUTELY be able to find the copper shield braid. I have located a
silver dollar coin buried about three feet deep. I have also found the
scrap trimmings from aluminum siding buried over half a foot down.
A "good" detector that I am referring to has two different modes. It
has an "ALL" metal mode, and it has a "DISCRIMINATOR" mode. The latter
mode will only indicate copper, brass, lead, silver, and gold materials
items. IOW, those things that are desirable.
We will use the ALL mode when sweeping a beach. That is how we end up
with items such as watches. Not to mention rings, coins, and bracelets.
So try one in the property if you can get hold of one, or find someone
with one to assist you.
They do take a "little" experience to be very effective.
Bob - N0DGN (Still making infrequent sweeps with one along the driveway
and sidewalk - providing pocket change and a couple of sterling silver
rings!)
