You can use a 12 volt car battery and a 12 volt
bulb that will run a couple of amps.  Put the battery
and a series bulb on the shield of the coax, at the
far end run a wire on the ground back from the shield
to the battery.  That should light the bulb.
Get a small magnetic compass, Boy Scout type, or
an auto compass, and move the compass along the
ground at right angles to where you think the coax is.
You may want to use a bigger bulb.
