My friend finally figured out the problem with his Ameritron SDA-100
screwdriver. The previous owner had mounted a plastic box on the coax
connection side to accommodate a SO-239 socket. They neglected to allow for
the thickness of the box when fastening the box using the original screw
that makes contact with the antenna inside the antenna. Removing the box
and using the original screw fixed that problem.
Current problem is that when transmitting, the digital display on the
SDC-100 Antenna Controller goes up and down. Clamp on ferrite chokes have
been installed on both ends of the motor wires from the antenna to the
controller itself. The manual shows O shaped cores with the wire looped
around the core. Would the clamp on type make any difference.
Thoughts?
