My experience with Quads was a long time ago on Okinawa.
For getting DX, or back to the Mainland USA, the Quad was
the antenna of choice. Welded aluminum "spiders" were readily
available. So were bamboo poles which were imported. Quads
were less apt to be damaged by high winds and/or corrosion. They
were much easier to adjust, and they didn't cost as much as a real
beam. And very important for crowded areas, the turning radius
was much smaller.
