Hi David,
I was service manager for a 2way shop for about 15 years and have been a
broadcast engineer now since 1983. We use many different types of crimp
connectors on many different types of coax... All with substantially
better results than with field soldered connectors. Especially with
some technicians. We do not now nor have ever had a hydraulic crimper.
With only a small amount of practice, most any technician can install a
good connector with a good crimp tool. With a lot of practice an
accomplished tech can still screwup many solder-on connectors.
I highly recommend the crimp connectors as installed by the proper tool.
