The manual at ftp://bama.sbc.edu/downloads/nye/mbva/mbva.pdf has a 
schematic, and it looks like there are a pair of 1N5711 diodes in the 
bridge.  These are Schottky

Of course, there are a lot of other active components in the circuit 
that could have failed, as well.
