I would consider a Larsen MNO-270 roof mounted with a quality mno mount and
cable.
I have (3) I have used for several years and they have always performed very
well here in South Alabama
where most repeaters are 50 to 60 miles apart. One has been through
Hurricane Opal, Ivan, and Katrina
and still performs as well as the last one purchased. I hope this
helps......John Brown - KE4HIE

Subject: [Antennas] Best Mobile Antenna
Hi Everyone,
I have a Hyundai Elantra and want to get the best 2m/70cm mobile antenna for
FM mobile operation. The rig I am using is a Kenwood TDM-700A and I have
plans to add a Mirage amp to get pre-amp capabilities and around 160 watts
out. I will be roof mounting this antenna and will drill a hole in the roof
to get a good ground plane connection. My concerns are:
1. To get the best performance (i.e. gain and receive capability) because I
am often operating on the fringes of the local repeater system.
2. To have the power handling capability.
3. To have an antenna that will take the punishment of constant use and a
lot of driving.
Please give me your feedback, experiences, and recommendation. As always,
thanks in advance for the advice.
