Hello,
Since no one answered my question about antenna resonance and the trap
frequency, I decided to change something, and see what happened.
I added 1/2 turn to the trap. An immediate and dramatic difference.
the resonance went from 3.64Mhz to 3.48mMhz. Took off 3 feet from the
80 meter side, got resonance to 3.508. Took off another 8", but no effect.
So, this is what this is telling me:
1. Tune your traps for the lowest frequency you wish to operate at. I am
assuming
that my trap is now resonant around 3.45 to 3.48. I should have added 3" of
coax
not 5".
2. If you trap is too high or too low by hundreds of khz, you probably
cannot affect
the resonance much by adding or taking away wire. At least that is what my
experience
so far tells me.
3. When the trap is more properly tuned, my bandwidth went from 70khz to
100khz (2:1 bandwidth).

BTW the antenna is a great performer on 30M. Before I used my 160M OCF
dipole at about the
same height on 30M. Last night, the inv L was one to two S units better on
dx, and even
better on some locals. However, in general, the dipole was slightly better
on locals here
in the southeast. I have not tried this antenna yet on 80M cw or 160M yet
bc of the
resonance problems. Tonight I will.
