[Antennas] VHF Antennae inside dwelling...

... I ham having some problems getting any of my antennas to work 
inside my house.  I am living at my parents house for just a bit longer 
till I finish my academy that I am going to and my wife to be gets done 
with school out of town.  Anyways I have set up FT857 in my room and was 
hoping to work 2 meters if not also 6 meters.   Anyways I have a hand 
full of antennas for both and I have tried them all.  Ground planes and 
all the SWR is off the chart.  Can anyone think of why this could be.  I 
go out side and everything works just fine.  Any help would be great.

Maybe you are getting big de-tuning from metal siding, or AC wiring, or
metal roof, or conductive roofing material, or foil insulation-backing, or
foil vapor barrier?

Does a handi-talkie work inside the house?
