Christoph,
switch on your radio with the antenna disconnected. Listen to the noise level (check the S meter) now
connect your antenna and check the noise level again. The noise should now be higher. If it isn't try
connecting your antenna as explained below by Mark. If the noise is still not increasing you have a
problem with your radio.
Remember that we are in the low of the sunspot cycle and unless you have a very good antenna there
are times when you won't hear anything except the noise.
