I'm running RG-8X... not too bad for what I'm doing.  

I agree the VSWR loss is the larger of the two losses (vice line loss), but
as you say... if it works, leave it be!

My is low... 25 feet or so, but that's the best I can do given the skyhook
situation.  You're probably right... the take-off angle is probably WAY to
vertical, but as long as I'm making Q's, I'm happy.  It's certainly better
then the attic dipole... especially on receive where it's 5 - 6 S-units
better on the noise level.

One thing I've learned over the past 30 or so years of warming the ether...
ANY antenna is better than NO antenna!

If its RG8, at 10mts, the loss of such is maybe 1-2db.....add in extra loss
due to SWR? Its not that much.
Only way you could do better is feed with a tuner and balanced line...but if
it works, why complain? Only issue with coax in your situation is power
handling at high SWR....which balanced line is much better at. If its RG58,
yeah you could be losing a few more db than would like....but its still not
bad (less than 3db at 10mts likely)
NOW how high it is above ground is the main issue...if its low to the
ground, you have a cloud warmer....if it's a decent height about ground, it
will work great (usually you can do this on 40 and above...on 160 or 80, you
would have to get it a 1/4wave above ground for decent launch angle....and
60-130ft height is not that easy to do for most)
