OOPS! Jim, you are not tracking here.
I am not the originator of the subject...but I do have to correct myself
about my statement about 5/8 wave ants...I obvioulsy had a mental bloc,
because I do know better. So...

I suppose only classic "verticals" (Verticals can be mounted horizontally,
and are not, then, "classic verticals") require radials or groundplane,
so,...
   1) 5/8 wave horizontal dipoles, or whatever other 
        horizontal types, don't need them.

   2) J-Poles are 5/8 wave and do not require
        radials or groundplanes.

   3) I don't know about vertical colinears.

But, I still don't at all understand that 12 db loss just from being
indoors....
