It looks like "Range Extenders" like the Dlink DWL-G710 and Linksys WRE54G
will do the job for under $100 .  It wasn't very long ago that devices with
this capability (like the Cisco 1200, RoamAbout, etc.) were in excess of
$1000.  You will need to do some more research on them, but it appears that
these "cheap" ones do not accept external antennas.  The more expensive ones
do.  There are a lot of them on mwave.com.
