Gene,

The telegraph-splice is already stronger than the wire before the splice,
and soldering does not make anything stronger. We're talking about hundreds
of pounds of breaking strength, and solder adds absolutely nothing to that.

   mechanical  and  electrical  integrity,   additional  strength  can be
   provided if you solder the connection using good techniques.
