[Antennas] Elevated Vertical-sloping radials

a buddy erected his Cushcraft triband GP at 25 ft with 4  radials sloping at 
45 degrees and cut for the lowest band ( 20M) 
 
His swr was terrific.....1.0to1  ( better than with  horizontal radials which 
would give a higher swr due to lower radiation  resistance,  BUT his 
complaint was  that his main lobe was much  higher.....and the antenna did quite well 
out at around 1500 miles but not as  well for low angle contacts.
 
Something gained=something  lost.
