I ve used a pair of quarter wave slopers - one for 40 and one for 75- with a
single coax feed . At two different qth's. ....on one 48 ft and one 56 ft.
high aluminum tower. Neither had radials. Both towers had three 8 ft
ground rods and #6 copper ground wire,
Performance was truly outstanding. DXCC etc. The 48 footer seemed to do
outstanding on 40, while the 56 fter did outstanding on 75. So tower height
matters. Both were mounted at the top of the tower with a tribander above them
and were essentially omnidirectional. And performance was outstanding
during dx contests, breaking pile ups on the first call. Thats not easy on 75
during a contest. And it did so consistently. I won high score in my ARRL
section for single op all band several times.
You will have fun finding resonance. The length will vary wildly due to
interaction, but the antenna will load at 1.1 to 1 at resonance off a direct
coax feed when you find the magic length. Its usually longer than a quarter
wavelength. Use trial and error. I didnt have my MFJ antenna analyzer then so
I made many trips outside to prune and unprune. Dont cut, just fold back the
wire til youre finished with both.
I didnt do 160 because my ground didnt allow 132 ft of sloper.
Good luck
