Yes, you can run ladder line all the way to the antenna tuner. Using
the antenna this way will require an antenna tuner that can handle open
wire line. I used one this way for many years.
A practical reason for doing this is to make the antenna more usable on
all bands.
The main problems in doing this is figuring out a way of routing the
open wire line into the shack and coming up with a decent antenna tuner.
There is also a slight disadvantage in having to retune the antenna
tuner with every major frequency change. (Others may consider this an
advantage). Sometimes it is more convenient to have an antenna covering
multiple bands without need for a tuner.
Also, even though the g5rv can be used as an 'all band' antenna, it was
originally designed for optimum performance on 20 meters.
