Yes it does absorb water if you let it. For proper installation the cut
ends are sealed and rubber booties installed to keep the water out. The
stuff is jacketed so only the ends need protection.
Moist kevlar is not a problem until the water freezes. Then it pulls
the fibers appart.
However, I cant just tie the Phillistran around the tubing either. It
has to mount through holes in a guy ring. I am going to make my own guy
ring out of sheet PVC. The PVC I use makes good insulators. I have
used it for everything from antenna insulators to open wire line
spreaders with good results.
