Very bad idea. Besides being dangerous it is useless for locating problems 
with loose hardware. The shock wave travels all way up and down the wires 
and you'll have no idea what pole or poles may be causing the problem.

That said, I have had *some* success by just slapping the pole with my bare 
hand, but not very often.
