It's properly called a "random wire," not a long wire. The original term "long wire" was used for antennas several wavelengths long. For example, the rhombic is a special case of the long wire. Usually the term inverted L, is used to describe an antenna that is a quarter wave (long or shorter). Harvey/W4TG
