[Antennas] Cleaning Copper Wire Oxidation

Jerry,

I use full strength Hydrocloric acid. You can get it at a hardware store
or a plumbing distributer; it is used for cleaning tile, etc. Be very
careful with it, as it will burn your skin, or eat through cloth. It is
contained in plastic well, however. Pour a small amount in a plastic cup
and dip your copper wires into it. That cleans all the oxidation off the
copper wire. Then you need to rinse the wire well. For wires I intend to
solder, I also rinse them in water that I have put a teaspoon of baking
soda in, then fresh water.

If you have enamel insulation on the wire, the acid will not strip the
enamel off the wire.
