[Antennas] Mercedes VHF/UHF options

Hi,
I too, have a Mercedes, I agonized for months on how to install a Hustler
HF antenna, which is medium size/weight/drag among the mobile HF
antennas. I first installed a lip mount on the trunk, the most heavy duty
one I could find. It was fine for a 2 meter 5/8 whip, but didn't hold the
Hustler well. Then I bought the heavy duty 4 magnet, mag mount and placed
it on top of the roof. That did the job well, I could drive 70 on the
interstate with antenna in place. But I couldn't get in the garage with
the antenna on the roof, and it hit trees on side streets, overhanging
roofs on drive in teller booths, etc., so I moved it to the top of the
trunk. The Hustler folds over, so I can get into the garage now, and I
didn't notice any degradation of the antenna performance. The magnets are
hard to remove, once set, and although I didn't use any plastic sheeting
under them to protect the paint, they should hold more than well enough for
a heavier mobile antenna with the plastic. I didn't notice any marks on
the paint on the vehicle with this mag mount, but that is always a possibility.

Chas
