Don't tell my boss I suggested this but I use the Vinyl bumper stickers our
radio stations hand out as protection stuck to the bottom of my mag mount
antennas.  Usually only one layer but sometimes two.  They are thin enough
they have little or no affect on the mag mounts, yet work well to protect
the vehicle finish. The best thing is they are free, and trim easily with a
pair of scissors.  The two 5/8th Larsen 2 meter whips on my expedition stay
put with the Larsen mag mounts even going up very rough 4 wheel drive
mountain trails and at 65-70 MPH on the highway.  The low garages in the
hotels and casinos here in Las Vegas, do tend to knock them off however!!!!
