I finally took the tuner and attached it and grounded it to a metal street
sign post near my yard. I connected it to my 706 and it worked fine 3.5 to
52 MHz (I forgot to try 160m)!

I guess that I will have to explore all that automobile grounding stuff I
have seen on this reflector over the years.

---My old antenna (a screwdriver-type) gave me NO problems in this regard.
