[Antennas] compare dx88 , butternut, or gap voyager

That's easy. None of 'em are going to present much 'PEDAL-TO-THE-METAL'
so-*** of the three *** I'd pick the tallest: the DX-Voyager. The Butternut
on 160 just adds a BASE loading coil, hm-m-mpf. I have no idea about the
DX-88. I do know Hy-Gain adds a similar base loading coil on the Hy-Tower.
Maybe they do the same on the DX-88. I THINK the DX-Voyager uses all of its
structure (45 ft) including that 6' top-hat. I like the DX-V a bit more
than most people on here, having used one on all three bands it covers:
160, 80, & 40M.
It works OK on 160. Maybe a lot of radials for 160M would help the
Butternut surpass it-haven't tried it, so I can't say. "Kurt N. Sterba" of
"World Radio" antenna column fame sure does like the Butternut... but I
don't know if he's tried it on 160M. The DX-V works pretty well on 80M, and
very well on 40M. There is a noticeable difference between 40M and 160M
with it. But-as I've said before: it goes up on a city lot; it works fine
with 3 - 5 of what GAP calls a counter-poise; and even though marginal on
160M, it beat loading my G5RV, and worked very well on the other two bands.
I hope that helps Paul.
