If i was using one of the MFJ loop antennas ( passive, about 36 inches,
~1 meter diameter) for mostly receive purposes, what approximately would
be the comparison to a dipole at the same height. Note, i am not asking
about transmit, so i don't think the copper losses apply. I am wondering
if anyone has a decent idea in terms of db down, or even from experience,
S units down. Or is the "capture area" the controlling factor, so size is not
that big a problem? If so, what if you make the receive loop even smaller,
like about 1 foot ( ~ 0.3m ) diameter? Was there some rule of thumb, to
be able to compare loop antenna diameter to some straight wire antenna
length, in terms of equivalent signal strength?
